Abstract

The present review discusses in detail the positive effects of physical activity observed in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular system diseases, which constitute the leading cause of death in most countries. Physical activity displays this positive effect upon regulating hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias and obesity that are accepted as risk factors in the development of coronary heart diseases (CHD). Through investigation of current litterature in the field; prevalence, morbidity and mortality rates connected to the cardiovascular system are compared for USA and Turkish populations. Advices will also be given about sound exercise prescription, which is necessary to obtain positive effects from physical activity.
