Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the leadership styles, the factors affecting the leadership styles of football coaches of East Azerbaijan Province, and the relation between their leadership styles and successes. For this aim, 34 male and female football coaches of the region, who had at least a third grade national coaching certificate were selected as subjects. Barens and Metzcus’ leadership style and Raudseep’ success questionnaires were used, after assessing their validity and reliability (Cronbach α=0.791 and α=0.805, respectively). Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software, and evaluating the Pearson correlation coefficient, applying regression analysis, two-way analysis of variance and student’s t-tests. The results revealed that there were no significant relationships among leadership styles of football coaches and either their gender or specialty. The relationships between leadership style and age, education level, coaching experience and coaching grade proved to be significant, as was the case between leadership style and success.
