Abstract

The present research aims at evaluating socio-demographic profiles of adolescents who participate regularly in sports and those who do not. A total of 941 adolescents aged 12 to 14 (13.2 ± 0.8 yrs) participated in the research. Of those, 290 participants were sports club players who trained regularly four days a week; and the remaining 651 were not involved in any sports activity at all. As data collection tools, a descriptive information form and a questionnaire of 20 questions were used in order to determine socio-demographic structure of the adolescents. Data analysis was performed using SPSS v15.0, and chi-square test was used. The results revealed that there were significant differences between the two adolescent groups in terms of educational and professional status of the parents, and family income status (p<0.05). Parental educational status and family income levels of adolescents who regularly participated in sports were higher than their non-exercising counterparts’.
